24 Mar 08 Thought process analysis

I’ve noticed there’s a lot of stuff on here about how I react to things, and how I feel about things. My aunty commented last week about me being able to understand how I’m feeling, when, and why. That’s because I have a very good system in place, thanks to a bounce-ideas-back-and-forth conversation with a manager at the specialist college.

One thing I usually do when things are happening, or immediately afterwards, is to write time-logged notes in my diary/notebook/scrap of paper. Simply because within an hour I’ll have forgotten a lot of it, only remembering the major points. Well, we sat once with my notes, and decided they were fairly hard to follow, and she started scratching out a bubble diagram, which I took, and added my emotions to, which she took and expanded them, and so on. So now, I take my notes and flowchart them; never straight away, I always leave it at least a day, because I need to think clearly and objectively about what I’m doing.

As an example, I’ve just finished my flowchart for last Wednesday night. Its downloadable, click thought process flowchart, as a PDF if you want to have a look at it. What you’ll see is a central column detail factual events, what happened, or what was said. Down the left are any emotions, along with further explanations if needed. On the right are my actual thoughts, and strategies employed. Finally, it’s all in chronological order and linked up!

I do have two weeks coming up soon for work related to AS, so I might try and develop this as a tool for behavioural or emotional analysis. Wait and see…
